What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean? Discovery to me means living. What I mean by that is that a day never goes by without learning something new. Learning is discovering and discovering is learning. In my picture I am sitting in the Discovery Center listening and learning about what to do with the Voki. Mr. May showed us. If no one discovers, no one knows what would happen. This is what discovery means to me.

What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game?
The name of the arcade game I played for research is Highway Race. The company that supports Highway Race is Camodro, Inc. The object of the game is to get in your race car and go down the highway, driving into cash to get money and also trying to avoid other cars. If you crash into a car you start the level over. Once you pass a level you use your money to update your car. Most of the rules of the game are displayed on the first slide. Some rules are at the bottom. I think the level of difficulty for Highway Race is a 4 out of a 1-4 rating system. You win the game by completing all ten levels with only three lives while getting as much money as possible. Once you have won the game you have finished all the levels.
To buy Highway race I think you would need $200-$900. To build Highway race I think you would need $250-$1,000. To build Highway Race you would need small toy cars, money signs and a piece of cardboard painted like a road.
Again the name of the arcade game I played was Highway Race. The URL is:
http://www.freearcade.com/HighwayRace.flash/HighwayRace.html. Design Brief What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game? Our arcade game is called Cat and Dog Chase. In our marble run game, you have 3 levels. We give you the choice of which one you want to do. There are easy, medium and hard levels. What you want to know is if you do not shoot at the right time, you will fall off of the guard rail! We will have the instructions on the right hand side of our game. Cat and Dog Chase is a 4 star difficulty out of a 1-4 rating. In order to win our game, you must make it to the end of the marble run without falling off the track. If you win by getting the marble in the 50, 75, or 100 tube, you get a prize. If you land in LOSE, you do not get a prize.
Our blueprint shows that our game has 2 obstacles, the looper and the twister. We have an opening in the back that we go into to get the marbles. We also have a dog release, levels, and our title will be on the top of our game.
In order to build this game we need marbles, windows, marble runs, and Coke bottles. It would take about 5 weeks to build. This game is a little hard for little kids, but it is very fun! I can see that we will have trouble installing the plexi-glass. We see that the marble run pieces are not connecting very well.

Praise: This is an awesome and well thought out. You have a wide variety of prizes.
Question: What was your biggest obstacle in designing this game?
Polish: Make sure the fan is unstuck before you let someone play the game.
Student Comment: Thank you! We had to think Cat and Dog Chase out a lot especially when Cat and Dog Chase got ruined. We had to do a lot of planning out. We both worked hard to bring in the prizes. Our biggest obstacle was when we inserted the plexi-glass. We already built the game so when we put in the plexi-glass we had to destroy everything else in the process. The only time the fan was stuck was when you played. We started to become aware of the fan being stuck after you played. Thank you for your opinion.

Praise: I like the original idea of “Cat & Dog” chase, making a marble maze more exciting! Your written directions are very clear.
Question: Would a mark on the game floor make the replacement of the marble receptacle easier?
Polish: Could you label the levels with their degree of difficulty?
Student Comment: Thank you! We worked very hard on our directions so that people can understand our game, Cat and Dog Chase, easily. At the beginning when we came up with what our game was going to be, we brainstormed separately. I came up with a cat and dog chase, and Aidan came up with a marble maze. We then combined them! We used to have marks on the floor rather than the marble receptacle for scoring. What happened is that it was not random. It was always landing in the lose section or 50. The marble receptacle was random and it kept landing in different score sections. We were going to label the levels but we never got around to it. We were too busy building the game that we forgot, and we just tell the players if it is easy, medium or hard.

Praise: Your game looks very professional and the structure is sturdy. Good work! I like the plexi glass.
Question: How will you encourage people to come play your game? What will make people try out different levels?
Polish: I think you need to consider how to consider how to determine a winner and how the points will be calculated in a way that is fair and consistent.
Student Comment: We tried to make Cat and Dog Chase neat, nice, and professional. The plexi -glass was a really hard thing to put in, but it was worth it! We will show our prizes, especially our raffle prize, and how you win almost every time. We will tell them that the harder the level the higher score you normally get. We have recently created a system where it lands in different point boxes every time. Sometimes it even lands in one hundred.

"Cat 'n' Dog Chase" Make It Better How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better? Reflection on Project
What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?
We could label the levels, say the prizes on the game, and maybe even add more levels. We could make it so our game did not break.
Specifically, how would we do this?
We would put easy, medium or hard to label the levels. We could redo the prizes sheet. We could use more tape.
Reflection on Process
What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?
I learned to construct a game with small marble pieces and making turns and traps.
What do you know now that you did not know before doing the Project?
I learned that you need to use a lot of tape to make something stable and that if you are working with someone you have to combine your ideas to be able to create an extraordinary final idea.
What can you do now that you could not before doing this project?
What I can do now that I could not do before Crusie Arcade was make a huge game out of marble run pieces.
What did you like about the project that helped your learning?
I liked we had to work together with a partner using teamwork to create a game.
What could have been done differently to help your learning?
To help our learning we could have had a couple more materials.
A Final Reflection:
We could improve our game, Cat and Dog Chase, by labeling the different levels, listing the prizes on the game, and maybe even adding more levels. We could also make it so our game did not break.
